The renovation of this exceptional Californian Bungalow style house – built in 1920 for cricketer Monty Noble – embraced the creation of a new living space with a direct relationship to the outdoors in sympathetic contrast with the more enclosed historic interiors.
The new ‘verandah room’ on the north with its large timber beams, is a contemporary reference to the old verandah facing the street.
The client uses a wheelchair and the design was tailored to her special needs. A particular request by the client was that the renovation should not look ‘institutional’.
Kitchen and bathrooms are totally accessible. The lap pool, running the full length of the living area and kitchen, is an important part of the client’s exercise therapy.
