Hartley Historic Site – Landscape Conservation

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service of are engaged in works involving major building and landscape conservation for this significant site west of the Blue Mountains.

The site has a long history of gardens and fruit trees in the cottages and civic buildings most of which have fallen into disrepair or disappeared. The management of random car parking is a significant landscape conservation challenge.

  • Our design included planting design, fence restoration, and the introduction of elements to control parking.
  • Our work was focused on most of the significant buildings including the Courthouse, the Royal Hotel, Ivy Cottage, The Post Office and Corneys Garage.
  • Our work strove to enhance the character of the place but not detract from historic views and the authenticity of the place.
