Leichhardt Living Streets

Leichhardt Living Streets is a landmark environmental sustainability project with funding from both Leichhardt Council and the NSW Environment Trust. Taylor Street, Annandale has been selected as a pilot project to demonstrate two key aspects of sustainable design:

  • suburban sustainability with modifications to street infrastructure and
  • a program of environmental awareness for local residents.

Through a series of community workshops, the project developed a new traffic management for the site moving parking to the western side of the street and installing traffic calming.

Constructed elements include water sensitive urban design measures such as rain gardens and water harvesting as well as a re-design of the street to create a shared zone for pedestrians, removing car dominance.
