Blundell’s Cottage – Masterplan, Canberra
National Capital Authority engaged Phillips Marler to prepare a Landscape Masterplan for Blundells Cottage, located in Kings Park on the northern foreshore of Lake Burley Griffin.
This challenging project invited us to:
- Address the surrounding landscape of Blundells Cottage (Stage 1 works)
- To understand and delineate the farm landscape that surround Blundells
- Realise the historic layers of the site and include them in a design framework.
Stage 1 works of the Masterplan, landscape works to improve the immediate surrounds to the Cottage which used to be confined to a small curtilage of a cottage garden have recently been completed.
For more pictures of the completed works refer to our page ‘Blundells Cottage – Landscape Works’.
Our Masterplan also included design options for creating a shared zone in the adjacent section of Wendouree Drive.
The aim was to further improve pedestrian and cyclist access in addition to the new path, steps and terraced platforms designed and constructed in Stage 1 works around and to the Cottage itself and create a safer environment for exploring new Blundells landscape and accessing Kings Park.
The design also included options for a new building close to Blundells to address the issues of education, office and public amenities and the best location for this building within the curtilage of Blundells Cottage.
